I have a friend who is also a ham who teaches physics in high school. There is such pressure on teachers to teach students for standardized tests like MCAS, Regents, SAT's, etc. that they have little time to do much else. It's quite sad as that certainly hurts the ability to inspire.

I took my electronics students to the top floor of the Advanced Technology Center at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ to see the launch. The elevation was a lot higher than I expected. The flares that occurred between rocket stages got some of the most O's. :-) Very cool.

FYI: All US operators using 472-510 KHz (so called 600 meter band) are operating with experimental licenses. Several countries have already approve ham radio for parts of this band. WRC-2012 approved this use, but each country has to initiate ham radio service for their nationals to use
