In my plugin for playing the winks, I play a bit with the client ID too
(sorry by the way I didn't have time to work on that the last 2 months :( ).
The thing is that the client id is set when the application is launched

I can only say that you must use setClientCap to set the bit and changeStatus
to send the new clientid over the network...

that is what you downloaded.

this is a problem in tcl/tk 8.5a3 and has been fixed in tcl/tk cvs
you can use the Desktop Integration plugin as a workaround
and about xorg: i use it without problems, just make sure you have
enough devel-packages installed
