What I don't understand is the french insistence on respelling proper names. A name is a name and should be respected enough to leave it as it actually IS. If you respell my name, it is no longer my name, just as in this context, Android is a name and thus any variation in its spelling is not

Well, @lbcoder : no, it's not a need to respell names. It's just because the pronounciation is really different. It's annoying for a French speaker to write android because it's supposed to sounds like an-dro-ad. So there is a need to put the ¨ so that we pronunce it correctly. It's just a
