Yes, there is a built-in mic. No, I never got it to work, but I agree it would be good. So, a brief update on that one ... The microphone and the DSP device work fine. $cat /dev/dsp test.wav $cat test.wav /dev/dsp record and replay sound from the microphone.

Be warned: The hx4700's speaker has a habit of self-destructing at high (for it) volume, even under Windows. It's particularly dangerous because at its highest volume, it is still by no means loud, and you will be tempted to put the volume at its highest just to hear alarm beeps and so on.

IIRC that's a bug in the window manager where it hides an _additional_ window (that claims all input (keys, ts)) _behind_ the other windows. The symptoms pretty much sound like that ... so I best check if it has been filed as a bug in Matchbox already? Is there any workaround for the moment?
