Yes, there is a built-in mic.
No, I never got it to work, but I agree it would be good.
So, a brief update on that one ...
The microphone and the DSP device work fine.
$cat /dev/dsp test.wav
$cat test.wav /dev/dsp
record and replay sound from the microphone.
Dear all,
recording audio notes with my HX4700' (Angstrom 2007.12)
internal microphone would be a nice feature ... unfortunately, I could
not get it working yet.
Whenever I start gpe-soundbite and try to record, it tells me Error

P.S.: Does the HX4700 have a built-in microphone? It seems so, but I
could not get mine working yet, just via headphones.

Be warned: The hx4700's speaker has a habit of self-destructing at
high (for it) volume, even under Windows. It's particularly dangerous
because at its highest volume, it is still by no means loud, and you
will be tempted to put the volume at its highest just to hear alarm
beeps and so on.
IIRC that's a bug in the window manager where it hides an _additional_
window (that claims all input (keys, ts)) _behind_ the other windows.
The symptoms pretty much sound like that ... so I best check if it has
been filed as a bug in Matchbox already?
Is there any workaround for the moment?
On my HX4700/Angstrom 2007.12, there is a problem with gpe-calendar that
is driving me crazy:
To create a new event, one has to tip the touchscreen in the day view
for about a second. However, whenever I tip the touchscreen in the day
view by accident just very briefly (because of sitting in a
Hi,
How do i turn bluetooth on/off from a program or shell script? In other
words, without having to tap on the gpe-bluetooth dockapp icon?
For example:
hciconfig hci0 up (or down)
on my HX4700, that does not do the entire job ... hciconfig hci0 up without the

Dear all,
I noticed that some new GPE applications were added to the feed.
gpe-beam, gpe-edit, gpe-filemanager.
These are for the 2008.6 architecture.

Dear all,
a follow-up to the custom locale I wanted to generate to influence what

There are two month overviews in gpe-calendar, one available via View -

James,

thanks a lot, my cursor pad is finally offline!
Watch out, there are 3 input folders (input0, 1 and 2), and only one of
them has a mode file, so if input1 doesn't work, try the others. I
could probably write a script to find out exactly which
Just to let you know that I tried this with my Spitz and the result was
that I ended up having to reflash the device.
I don't know the internals of the Spitz ... but I've experienced
something similar on the HX4700, where kernel modules are upgraded but
the new kernel is not installed. That
Just some beginner's questions, as I had something similar after I finally
managed to upgrade an existing 2007/12 install:
When you have an internet connection, you do:
ipkg update
ipkg upgrade
Then all the existing updates for this release are installed. Afterwards, I
did 'reboot'

Dear all,
thanks for your insightful feedback! A few more questions, though:
- How does one get the root partition installed on SD or CF card? I did
not read about that possibility yet ... compared with internal flash,
how does that behave speed-wise?
- As there are obviously fans of SD
Dear all,
I was wondering where others have their home directories ... I have an
HX4700, so there are several options:
- Internal flash (default)
- SD card

What is the best solution in terms of data safety, speed and memory

Thanks,
Dear all,
there is a number of programs I'm missing badly in Angstrom ... just to
mention gpe-edit, gpe-filemanager, or gpe-beam. I would not mind
creating the ipkgs for these programs myself (and eventually, maybe
maintaining them).
Is there any tutorial online how to create an ipkg for
Hi Looije,
Just another question. When I power of my ipaq, and power it back on,
I have to restart the wireless card manually. Is it possible to do it

Dear all,
I'm running Angstrom/GPE on a HX4700. The user interface is in English
and I would like to keep it that way.
What I would like to change, however, is the Date Format (to DD-MM-)
and the starting day of the week (Mon, not Sat). I was told that this is
controlled via the locale
I experienced the same problem as the previous posters on the HX4700 -
after installing Angstrom 2007.12 everything was fine, after an ipkg
update; ipkg upgrade the system was hanging on the splash screen.
My feeling was that the culprit must be a kernel package, so I designed
