Bush Announces New Cabinet Level Office For Homeland Security

President Bush last night announced the creation of a new White House office to lead the government's efforts to defend the American public against terrorists and named Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge (R) to the Cabinet-level post, according to The Washington Post. (
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A1708-2001Sep21.html )As the first director of the new Office of Homeland Security, Ridge will coordinate 40 federal agencies and departments, overseeing everything from the interaction between the FBI and the CIA in developing and using intelligence to working with governors and state agencies to adequately prepare for potential attacks.
