Parts of Southwestern Ontario were hit with both frost damage and a series of hail storms. Some orchards in Norfolk county received considerable hail damage, while others received only trace amounts. Hail damage (varying degrees) has also been reported in other parts of Ontario including the London area, Hamilton, Niagara and even near the Georgian Bay. I think we have seen enough crazy weather for this year! I heard a report today on an Albany, NY radio station that up to 1/3 of the NY apple crop may have been impacted (particularly western New York) and that they are actively seeking federal disaster assistance? (But that is the media, although it was public radio, :-)) I know at least two significant orchards in the upper Connecticut River valley of Massachusetts saw some hail damage from the same set of storms that crossed NY earlier this week, and one orchard in eastern Mass. had hail the day after. Could be along summer if the weather pattern holds... We had pea sized hail in Hart, MI last week but only for about a minute. Some minor damage but nothing compared to the frost damage earlier.
