In most cases, damage along the trellis will diminish with distance because
metal posts and/or trees attached to the trellis will act as grounds to
dissipate the charge. How many trees are killed or damaged will depend on many
different factors, including the strength of the initial lightening
I am not aware of lightning strikes on any wire trellis systems in our
area but that was always one of the selling points for using monofilament
instead of wire.

My sister in Ohio recently told me that a local orchard near her tried
using wires like yours ( I have a tresses system here in Montana) and had
lighting kill a lot of their trees. Must be something to it...
