I'll put a xine backend into the repos. Jan told me he will work on gstreamer at the weekend. So gstreamer is the default (upstream decision) but you can choose xine if you like (or others). Btw: upcoming psi will use gstreamer, too. So reduceing gstreamer's deps is a good idea. -- Pierre

and provide a separate gstreamer package; this way you can remove gstreamer if you really don't like it. :-) Qt depends on the base plugins of gstreamer; so you can play ogg files; systemsounds should work. If a file really does not play try to install the whole plugin group. -- Pierre Schmitz

responsiblility. I think I agree with James here. What about the people who WANT to use PEAR? I know there are some people who prefer easy_install for python. What if it would be as easy as pacman -S php-pear to get it? -- Pierre Schmitz, http://users.archlinux.de/~pierre

Hi devs, I did not start it but it was put into testing so we have to deal with it. I have created a todo list: https://dev.archlinux.org/todo/12/ Note: It might be incomplete and I have not checked if a rebuild is needed or already done due to the libjpeg/readline rebuild. -- Pierre

) People who still want to use pear instead of pacman could provide a PKGBUILD in AUR for this. What do you think? And btw: pear itself does not seem of high quality; did anyone try it with E_ALL|E_STRICT etc.? -- Pierre Schmitz, http://users.archlinux.de/~pierre
