yes, it was indeed written by atan burhagohain. at
least that is the accepted fact. so it was written
in
the 17th century.
i should be more clear. only the bahgarhia buranji is
written by atan burhagohain. the deodhai oxom buranji
is written by someone else.

I would like to pronounce Assam as in Assamese language, even if the
word is written in Chinese.
Changing the spelling is not the solution, pronouncing the proper noun
correctly is what matters.
Many writers have given examples of name change like Madras to Chennai
or Bombay to Mumbai.
