Guwahati: Three abandoned wells of Oil
India Limited (OIL) were set ablaze, allegedly by agitating employees on
contract, in the Digboi reserve forest of Tinsukia district of Assam on
Tuesday.
The company sources said though
none of the three wells had any strategic value, the Oil India authorities
were shocked by the severity of the sabotage.
The agitated employees who set
the wells ablaze were demanding better pay package and perks.
They had clashed with the
security forces on Monday after an altercation with the company's
management.
All the wells immediately
caught fire causing damage to some of the OIL properties inside the jungle.
No one arrests have been made
so far but the CISF have increased their presence throughout the OIL
installation as they apprehend further sabotage by the contract laboureres.
