October is the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM). It is an
annual international health campaign event organized by major breast Cancer
organizations to increase awareness of the disease and to enlighten the public
of its cause, prevention and cure. Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters
(FASS) in collaboration with ICCN
(Indian Cancer Care Network) and a local NGO RODALI are taking up some plans to 
bring this awareness in North
East India where this awareness need to be brought throughout the year. 


On 11th October the collaboration organized a Breast Cancer Awareness  Camp  in 
Handique Girl's College Gauhati. It was well attended by the students of the 
college. Mrs Gayatri Devi from
Handique Girls college gave the welcome address and Mrs Alaka Chakravarty, Vice
-Principal  Handique Girl'e College presided the meeting . Dr Jayantimala
Chakravarty from RODALI, gave a valuable presentation with demonstration. (see

The camp was also attended by Dr
Jayanta B Sarmah from UK
who a speech about ICCN and its work. Dr Sarmah stressed the importance of the 
awareness and
suggested that college student should volunteer their time for cancer patients. 
 The best way to fight breast cancer
is to have a plan that helps you detect the disease in its early stages. He 
requested the ladies to start Early Detection Plan at the earliest.



We are also planning to organize such awareness camps in other parts of the
North East. Possible sites are: Jorhat (Lakhimi Sangha & DCB Girls
College); Dibrugarh (Kanoi Girls College), Shillong (Lady Kean College), 
Duliajan (Zaloni Club) and
others.  One may request such awareness camps by writing to

Presentation available which can be emailed to any interested party to organize
such awareness camps on their own. One may also contact RODALI in
