FriendsAnnouncing the FASS Program:Let There Be Light for Education in Assam and Seven Sisters' .(সাত ভ্নী অসমত শিক্ষাৰ পোহৰ হওক)
Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters (FASS) is taking up a humble project to distribute Solar Reading Lamps free of cost to deserving students in Assam and Seven Sisters (ie>North East India). This may be a very high sounding ambitious project. However, our goal is not to boast of our ambition, but basically also to bring an awareness to all concerned about the pathetic condition of electrification in general in North East India, and try to help the situation for the needy at least for the youths for pursue of education. The North East has a population of more than 40 million with an estimated about 10 million households. According to one estimate, about 75% of the households (or about 30 million people) in the North East do not have electricity. Apparently, the rural North East is yet mostly untouched by GOI’s ambitious Rajib Gandhi Rural Electrification Plan. FASS has neither the resources nor it is its aim to provide rural electrification in the North East India. FASS has so far received sponsorships for about 100 Solar Reading Lamps for distribution in various parts of the North East. We are planning to launch the project by organizing a kick off meeting in Jorhat where we will distribute Solar Reading Lamps (Vidyadeep) to the first 25 deserving students of rural area in the Jorhat-Sibsagar district. FASS members in Jorhat have already selected the 25 deserving students from high school and colleges who are meritorious and are in real need of help. (See list below). The Deputy Commissioner of Jorhat, Mr R. C. Jain has kindly agreed to attend the meeting as the Chief Guest to encourage the students as well as to promote the project. There will be also the students, teachers and the parents from each school in the meeting where each of these students will be awarded a free Solar Reading Lamp (Vidyadeep) along with a Certificate from FASS. The FASS program is made possible with kind sponsorships of many global NR-NEI members as well as through active collaboration and support of local community members living in North East India in helping in selecting the deserving students and distributing the lamps. At present, we have received requests for Solar Reading Lamps from Manipur, Nagaland and Meghalaya besides various other parts of Assam. We are making plans to distribute in these areas soon. If you live outside of North East India and want to sponsor Solar Reading Lamps in your home village/town through our low cost affordable plan, you may kindly contact us for details. All Solar Reading Lamps distributed bear labels of "With Compliments from" in the name of the Sponsor. If you sponsor ten or more Solar Reading Lamps, you may also select the deserving students and the area for distribution on your own. If you live in anywhere in North East India and want to participate in the FASS project for distribution of Solar Reading Lamps and want to help by selecting deserving students in your own area, you may write to us asking for details. At this time FASS is also looking for corporate or governmental sponsorships for this program to help the needy students in North East India. For sponsorship details and for additional clarification, please write to Friends of Assam and Seven Sisters (FASS) at friendsofas...@gmail.com Best wishes to all and looking for every body's help and cooperation in making the project "Let There Be Light for Education in Assam and Seven Sisters' (সাত ভ্নী অসমত শিক্ষাৰ পোহৰ হওক) a success for a brighter future of North East India.
