We use Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and Debian 3.0 r2 (woody) for our commercial installations. Asterisk runs well on both but you will find RHEL3 much easier to install and find that it supports a wider range of hardware configurations without requiring the kernel builds that a Debian install
