. But no, I cannot
recommend any crystal for use in the low-drive mode. :-P
Unfortuntely only available in german, but still very good:

mustn't drive any other or any big load with the oscillator
and have a low power (uWatt) capable crystal.
(BTW: I'm using the ATMega168 right now).

You are propably looking for some 74AHC125 (or similar)
Quad buffer/line driver w/ 3-state.

Smells really like a toasted AVR.
Just replace the AVR and give it another try.

with only about 3.1Volts and some
100Ohms serial resistance. This isn't really a problem, if your circuits
are able to deal with it.

would expect the solution will be more complex and error prone.
Hopefully I'm wrong.

describe what kind of product you want to build and what
market you will design for, it's propably more easy to give you
some hint about a proper design strategy, which is something like:
Calculate the costs, material, HR, risks, service, ... and then decide.

adapter where you have the tiny28 soldered to your board and contact
the assembled board via some test pins like:
http://www.test-x.com/bare/S-SIZE-0.pdf
You have to take care that the circuit still allows programming of your
tiny... YMMV.

Great! Thanks!
I am currently using i.e. the ATmega168. I'll try to chain it with my
Actel FPGA and other stuff.
So, you are using the XC3SprogAT91 JTAG tools?

This isn't really true. There are a large number of programmers

/IP implementations.
Of course, it's necessary to know what happens inside of the
code if something goes wrong. Your best friend is a good
debugger and know-how to use it. But I would first give it a
try and starting from the top-level.
Download the code and give it a try.
Good luck,
