positive trashcan can't be hardcoded to use PCManFM, that wouldn't make any
sense; I don't even have it installed, trash runs on nautilus just fine from
the launcher...

It sounds like PCManFM is the default file manager. The home folder
launcher manually runs Nautilus, but I'm pretty sure the trash runs
xdg-open trash:///
