The ftp server is a internet site; i've ftp access to manage all site files.

1) do a pre-backup script to mount the ftp site using your favorite method,

is trying to print out OS errors instead of eval errors, which is
causing misleading errors. Please patch your install directory with
the attached patch (use the option -p1 as well).

configuration in the Webinterface.
the only thing you have to do using shell, is to create a mount moint
(unless you use an existent folder).
Then you can manage mount umount using webinterface, using DumpPreUserCmd
