 Hi Ulrich,

 I'm only making suggestion (have not test it already)

 I think you should find a binary bat in /usr/lib(64)/bacula/
 If it's the case you could edit the /usr/sbin/bat wrapper script to point
 it to the real path of bat.

No, there isn't any binary of bat. The filelist displayed by the
packagemanager (YaST) lists only the following files:

/etc/bacula
/etc/bacula/bat.conf
/usr/sbin/bat  (---The Wrapper)
/usr/share/applications/bat.desktop
/usr/share/man/man1/bat.1.gz
/usr/share/pixmaps/bat_icon.png

 Personnaly as I'm monitoring several server on different lan I've more than
 one bat.conf ( one for each dir ) so I aliased the binary and the conf for
 each

 alias bat-svr1='/usr/sbin/bat -c ~/.bacula/bat-svr1.conf'

 (In my case /usr/sbin/bat is the binary)

Hello everyone,

I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

[Bacula-users] unable to mount the wanted tape bacula 3.0.1

Hi List,

i have started a restore job

 The job will require the following
Volume(s)Storage(s)SD Device(s)
 ==

FUL112   JBBB  JBBB

i got this message

i put the tape into the changer and run

ui, big surprise :)

it looks like bacula simply forgot to
move the tape from the slot 15 into drive 0
before opening the device.

with 2.4.4 this problem does not appear,
so i think it is not a problem of my configuration.

and i wonder what this means:
backup-sd-bb JobId 72185: Invalid slot=0 defined in catalog for Volume FUL112

does the sd really look into the catalog (query the database) to determine the
slot of the volume?

Best Regards

Thomas

p.s.:
after using mtx on the commandline to load the tape into the drive
i can mount the volume and the job runs

Re: [Bacula-users] fileset question

2009-05-15 Thread Bob Hetzel
1) regex is more powerful (and therefore slow) for what you're trying to
do. WildFile is probably what you'd want instead.
2) You can't do both an include and an exclude of the same directory.
3) Start with something really basic. Take out all the exclusions and then
you're just left with the File line.
Then put all the exclusions in one Options block. It looks to me like you
only want to include each user's Desktop, My Documents, and Thunderbird
folders. Have you looked at how big it would be to just include everything
  under Documents and settings with possible temp directory exceptions?

That would be quite a lot simpler... like so...

FileSet {

   Name = XP_WS4
   EnableVSS=yes
   Include {
   Options {
   Signature = MD5
  compression=GZIP
  ignore case = yes
  exclude = yes
  WildFile = *.lnk
  WildFile = *.mp3
  WildFile = *.wma
  WildDir = */temp
  WildDir = */temporary*
  }
   File = C:/Documents and Settings
}

Also, are you sure you'd want to exclude .lnk files?

Also, after setting this up, you can log the list of files it gets with the
command
@output /tmp/file-listing.txt
estimate listing job=jobname
@output

I typically look over those lists for stuff to exclude, but mainly I sort
it by size to exclude big stuff that wouldn't be useful, such as installers
for acrobat reader, etc.

  A server crashed here after an upgrade/reboot. Much mayhem and sleep

  Bacula came through with most of the files needed, but restored
  everything as root:wheel. This was from running bconsole, running
  restore, picking the Job IDs, and selecting files.

  The UID/GIDs did not exist on the new system at the time of the restore,
  but they do now. In this case I needed the files first so I'd know what
  UIDs/GIDs to use on the new system.

  How to preserve ownership/groups during a restore?
  I would expect restore to do that automatically, using the numeric
  UIDs/GIDs.
  This should work even if they aren't in the user/group databases.
  That didn't happen, at least not for me.

  Can you repeat it by doing another restore now that you have the user/groups
  set up correctly?

 Yes. This time the files were restored with the correct UID/GIDs.

The original problem is still a mystery then.

I suggest doing a test with some arbitrary UID/GIDs that are not known.
Create a file and change its owner/group e.g. with chown 12345:12345. Check
that ls -l shows 12345 and then backup and restore these files and see what
happens.

  Did you restore all files in the backup?
  No. In bconsole, I did this:

  1. restore

  2. Option 3, pick relevant job IDs (eight of them, in this case -- one
  full plus seven incremental backups)

  3. cd /directory_to_be_restored

  4. mark *

  5. done

  6. select host to be restored

  7. proceed

  OK, that should definitely set the UIDs/GIDs of all of the marked files.
  Note
  however that it won't set them for /directory_to_be_restored or any
  directories that Bacula created above this.

 Might that be the problem? I created a /home/bacula/bacula-restore
 directory on the new server as root before running the restore.

That shouldn't cause a problem.

The RegExDir matches the directories directly within C:/Documents and
Settings/ but nothing within those directories. It is needed because none of
the other WildDirs match those directories.

Bacula walks over the filesystem from the File= lines and doesn't descend into
any directory that matches an exclude rule. The RegExDir clause is needed to
allow it to descend into those directories, otherwise it will not even
consider the Desktop etc subdirectories.

 Secondly, does anyone else agree that it would be desirable to have the
 fileset look more like this:

 Include {
Rational_Filespec: = C:/Documents and Settings/*/My Documents
Rational_Filespec: = C:/Documents and Settings/*/Desktop

 instead of the dog's breakfast?

Yes, but it is difficult to implement efficiently in more general cases
without scanning the whole filesystem looking for matches. The current
algorithm allows large parts of the filesystem to be ignored completely.

why does it sometimes took so much time?
i have seen this a few times over the last years.
sometimes, when an appendable tape is loaded, it ends up with an error unable
to position volume to end of data after ~ 4 hours.

what happens in the background?
is bacula not able to find the correct file and scans the whole tape?
or this something the hardware does while bacula is only waiting?

our sdlt drives have ~5000 tape motion hours and ~4 power on hours.
also the cartridges are getting old, after how many motion hours a sdlt dies?
is it really time to change to lto?

I do not run debian or a derived distro of that, but a word of
warning. You must remove localhost and 127.0.0.1 from all bacula
config files and replace this with the external ip address. The
defaults applied by the debian packaging limit bacula to backing up
only the director which is not what you want.

I was wondering if someone using a Dell PV-124T tape library can paste the

Btape tests run fine, including the autochanger, but in Bacula I'm not able
to make the autochanger work. The tape will refuse to be loaded and message
returned is that /dev/nst0 is not an autochanger. I used the same
configuration I used once for an Overland and an HP_something tape
libraries, but the PV-124T doesn't work. Thank you.

 Hi
 I was wondering if someone using a Dell PV-124T tape library can
 paste the Autochanger and Device resources from bacula-sd.conf file
 here.

 Btape tests run fine, including the autochanger, but in Bacula I'm
 not able to make the autochanger work. The tape will refuse to be
 loaded and message returned is that /dev/nst0 is not an autochanger.
 I used the same configuration I used once for an Overland and an
 HP_something tape libraries, but the PV-124T doesn't work. Thank you.

This is for a PV-122T but I think it is very similar:

Autochanger {
  Name = PV-122T
  Device = PV-122T-1, PV-122T-2
  Changer Command = /usr/local/bacula/etc/mtx-changer %c %o %S %a %d
  Changer Device = /dev/sg4
}

Device {
  Name = PV-122T-1
  Drive Index = 0
  Media Type = LTO-2
  Archive Device = /dev/nst0
  AutomaticMount = yes; # when device opened, read it
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  RandomAccess = no;
  AutoChanger = yes
}

Device {
  Name = PV-122T-2
  Drive Index = 1
  Media Type = LTO-2
  Archive Device = /dev/nst0
  AutomaticMount = yes; # when device opened, read it
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  RandomAccess = no;
  AutoChanger = yes
}

Note that the changer are on /dev/sgX and not on /dev/nstX!

Hope that helps!

This configuration is a bit specific to OpenBSD (esp. the mtx-changer
script which has been heavily modified), but hopefully it'll help.

bacula-sd.conf:

AutoChanger {
  Name = 124T-Autochanger
  Device = 124T-Drive
  Changer Device = /dev/ch0
  Changer Command = /usr/local/libexec/bacula/mtx-changer %c %o %S %a %d
}

Device {
  Name = 124T-Drive
  Drive Index = 0
  Media Type = 124T
  Archive Device = /dev/nrst0
  AutomaticMount = yes; # when device opened, read it
  AlwaysOpen = yes;
  RemovableMedia = yes;
  RandomAccess = no;
  AutoChanger = yes
  Maximum Open Wait = 300
  Maximum Changer Wait = 300

  Hardware End of Medium = No
  Fast Forward Space File = No
  BSF at EOM = yes

  Spool Directory = /bacula/backups/sd-spool/
}

bacula-dir.conf:

Storage {
  Name = Tape
  Address = IP munged
  SDPort = 9103
  Password = munged
  Device = 124T-Autochanger
  Media Type = 124T
  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1
  Autochanger = yes
}
