Where can I find the (unsupported) Win32 installation executable for
the entire 5.0.3 system? (I don't have a *nix system to compile
everything myself.) I only seem to be able to find the (official)
File Daemon programs for Windows.

I'm running WinXP and trying to set up a test backup to a DVD-R using
Bacula/Win 3.0.3a (the latest precompiled Win version I could
find). Most things seem to be running, but I'm having a device
problem with my DVD writer. Perhaps someone could help me figure out
what I'm doing wrong?
I'm very sorry to hear that. Thanks for the
info!

Ok, I'm probably doing something stupid that's obvious to
everyone else. Perhaps someone can point it out to me?
I'm running Bacula v3.0.3a on WinXP and most things seem to be working
fine. I'm trying to specify some file extensions that are not to be

Thanks for your reply, Martin!
I'm backing up only a single file for this test and the data written is
about 1/5th as big as the file it's backing up, and the job status shows
a 78% compression ratio.
I don't think anything else looks odd - everything seems to be backing up
fine. It just looking

Yes! That works!
So it looks like there's a bug in that process. I haven't used the
bug-reporting procedures here. Would someone else like to report
this for me so it's done right, or shall I muddle through figuring it out
myself?
Thanks for your help!!

For years I've been using the ancient 3.0.3 version of Bacula, but
I'm now having computer problems and I want to verify my current
files' MD5 checksums against the database. However, when I look in
the database's File.MD5 column, I find that some entries have
reasonable-looking

friendly. The second most popular distribution is Debian, which is what
I use, but definitely is less user friendly than Mint.
MySQL would be a good choice for your database.
Hope this helps!

My current home Bacula system is so terribly ancient that I've just
got to get rid of it, but no pre-compiled updates are available for
Windows. So it looks like my best bet to is to create a VirtualBox
VM (on my Win8.1 host) and load some flavor of *nix on it and install

Thank you very much Sebastian! I am very sorry for implying
the wrong thing with my subject - around here it just means
"newbie" (i.e. new user), about Linux in this case, and I
didn't know it meant other things elsewhere.
My apologies for not asking my question more clearly, too. I have plenty
Thanks, but I don't think I need a book about usage. I just
need to get the software downloaded.

Thanks again, Sebastian, but these instructions do not apply
to the problem I'm having. I have apparently installed PostgreSQL
correctly. And I know what to do when I get to the Bacula configuration.
My issue lies between those two steps, in getting Bacula onto my system
in the first place.
Greetings, all!
I've been using a really ancient version of Bacula on Windows 8.1 (so
I'm reasonably familiar with Bacula itself) but I really need to
upgrade. So I've built myself a Linux (VirtualBox) VM and I'm trying
to install the current release on it. But I'm really a n00b at Linux

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, but why is the
Director not available to run under the pre-compiled Windows
distribution? I ran into this long ago but I thought that it had been
re-included more recently. Apparently I was incorrect. Is there a
particular reason for this exclusion?
