I've scowered the web for this and have seem some solutions but so far none
have worked for me.
I am able to backup and restore my bb using barrybackup. Congrats, nice
piece of software.
Is anyone capable of syncing with Evolution ? If so, how ?
Thanks !

A slightly off topic question to this but does anyone know how a cell

Just to confirm that I get the exact same error. I did not get this with my
8830.. But I wonder also if something didn't change in Ubuntu itself and the
switch to the Curve was a coincidence.

When you first plug in your device, what Product ID shows when you run
lsusb -v ?
For the 8830 it is:
Bus 003 Device 003: ID 0fca:0004 Research In Motion, Ltd.
For the 8330 it is:
Bus 005 Device 007: ID 0fca:8004 Research In Motion, Ltd.

Using the latest out of CVS and with my 8330 connected, when I run
the gui backup program as root I get a dialog box that says:
Socket: Bad OPENED packet in Open
The bash shell reads:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/Projects/barry/udev$ sudo
Running latest in cvs as root and doing a backup using the GUI I get:
Backup error: (-110, No error): Timeout in usb_bulk_read
This is on a 8330 Curve, on OS 4.3

can create your own .deb file from the CVS sources by running the following
command from inside the barry directory:

What error message did you get? Can you try running barrybackup with the
-d option, and copy the last few messages when it stops?
Latest in CVS fixed all my errors including permissions.
Thanks!
Now I can stop having to boot into windows just

Were you able to restore your messages? I originally coded the backup
program to skip email, since that causes a lot of wireless traffic,
and some people have thousands of messages in the Blackberries.
And email is mostly stored on RIM's servers anwyay,
