Reviews

Yochanan
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It was oK. Not too crazy about it. Loved
the books, liked the movies Seemed like too much story for the 90 minutes.
Liked sites and costume, but story meandered. Matinee. Wanted to be impresses,
but wasn’t. Acting was good. Seems to be reaching its target audience.
Valerie: Has written a book about the book. Disliked the movie. No likable
characters. In the book had more charming characterizations. Close to book, but
without the backstories.

Forever Free by Joe Adleman. Didn’t like as much as Forever War in the
beginning, but got better in the second third. Then it goes crazy. Wasn’t crazy
about it, but not bad. There is a third book.

Doctor Who: The Star Beast (D+) Tennant & Tate. So wonderful to see the Doctor
back, interplay of the characters. Had read som of the original comic series.
TRADIS interior is marvelous. Glad to be able to see it on Disney+ Highly
recommend.
Valerie: Hail to the Meep. Charming and delightful and satisfying. Wrapped up
something from earlier.
Ken: Davies has been wanting to adapt this 1980 comic series, and now
technology and the Disney cash made it happen.

Craig:
Los Con was this past weekend. Little sparse (dealers and attendance). Next
year moving to the Hilton next door.
Gerald: Agree with Craig. The Science program was good. Looking forward to
going back. Good con, sold a couple books, met up with people.
Gayle: Went to a presentation on Europa Clipper. Presenter know her stuff. Lot
of good science. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europa_Clipper

Valerie:
Valerie went to SF Fan Expo. Lots of big stars, okay programming, getting
around three floors could be a little wearying. Fun seeing the four hobbits and
Mark Hamill.

Valerie enjoyed Boucher's Rocket to the Morgue (1942) and Tidhar's
Circumference of the World (2023), both parodying the golden age of sf/pulp and
making it come to life. Continuing with self-aware parodies, Scalzi's Starter
Villain was hilarious.

Rumor of the Week:

The Doctor is BACK!!
