Is it possible to sort the entries of the bbdb according to certain
rules -- preferably alphabetically? After doing some syncing with my
Palm the records are completely out of order.

Try M-: (bbdb-resort-database) RET. Perhaps this function should be
interactive? Or whatever syncing operation you are using should take
