I had 2 Berners before my children were born and when I was training them I always
kept children in mind because I had several neices and nephews. Berners are great
with children IF they are trained. Basically ANY dog or breed can be aggresive if
they are not trained properly. My female
Hi, Elisabeth!
I too waited too long to purchase a BMD calendar for
2003. There are four stalls/stores in the malls in my
area, and the workie guy at each one told me that BMD
calendars are the first to go! One guy did give me a
little flyer and I went to their website just
yesterday and ordered
Does anyone have a recipe for soft treats that won't
crumble? I have pawed back through the older digests,

I'm looking for something simple to use for my

Hi Laura,
If you have a food dehydrater you could make any variety of jerky treats for
your puppy and cut them bite size.
Or you could cook liver and cut it up into bite size pieces too.

I buy high quality deli turkey in a 3/8-1/2 slab. Cut into cubes and
freeze laying flat in a ziploc bag. When you want to use them, put a
I use BilJac a lot. That's the frozen dog food. I just defrost, and form
into balls and refreeze the balls. Then I take out a ball of the correct
size for training that day and give the dog small bits of it as a reward.
There are some crumbs but not a lot and the food is soft so goes down
As a prospective puppy owner, we are advised to join a local dog club to
learn about the breed and the Berner community. I have learned
that these reasons, though important, are only the tip of the iceberg. A
dog club can offer so much more -- just persist and get past the

Thank you in advance for sending off another check for the BARC LOC

about the Budster!! What you failed to mention about Buddy, though is
that he is a cuddler supreme!! That should be worthy of a brag
The very best and easiest treat I've used is string cheese. Its a miracle dog
training substance! It sticks to things (like go-out posts,) it can be shoved
into a binder clip (for heads up heeling,) its not gross to dangle from your
mouth (for fronts,) its also not gross when spitting a
Ooops! Clipped too much off the dewclaw and now it's bleeding..not too bad.
I know there is something that is good to put on these type of

I just recently had to take my berner to the vet for a small problem...

Why does Tucker bark at the doorbell sound on TV???
I don't have a doorbell - this is not learned by excitement of people
coming to door.
A friend's dog also taught him to bark at dogs on TV - fortunately this is
limited to a small woof... (and he doesn't bark at The Chipmunks, cat food

Ok, my 9 month old berner loves being outside (especially in the snow)
and I'd love to take him camping on the Appalachian trail. I
definitely don't want to wake up next to a frozen puppy and it can get
pretty cold at night, so how cold can it be for these guys to be

I agree with Marjie with the string cheese. It's a wonderful training treat,
keeps well in your pocket or treat pouch,
dosent smell up your van like forgotten pieces of liver,

and best of all, it's a small snack for yourself on those long hikes,
drafting work, parades etc

I am a displaced Brit now living in Canada and I can assure you your Berner

Hi,
Raw egg white depletes Vitamin K which is needed for clotting so if feeding
raw egg to a sick dog only use the yolk. Lightly scrambled or coddled whole
egg is best.
