Andrea Field Stefanac sent this note to me about making a Christmas ornament for Winston using his name tag. I thought others might like to do this too, for both your Berners at the Rainbow Bridge and the ones that you have with you now......

Subject: ID tag idea for Winston

Hi Joye,

Just something I wanted to pass along to you...My mom's mother (died when I was 2 yrs old) used to take the name tags for each cat (they didn't have dogs) that passed away and attach it to a smallish, stuffed Christmas ornament with a small cat collar bell. My mother currently has the ornament memoralizing her cat (while growing up) Sugar Plum. The ornament is stuffed, shaped like a small stocking and is slightly larger than most catnip toys. It is always placed on the tree with the utmost care and fond smiles and memories.

The cat that I grew up with is now 20 years old. We got her when I was in 3rd grade and she was my cat growing up- fed her, cleaned litter pan, slept on my bed all the time, etc. Wednesday night I took Sapphire to the Vet Emergency Center (Chris' work). She has a large mass that is encompassing the hinge portion of the right side of her jaw. It is growing behind her eye also and making the eye bulge out a bit. It is most likely cancer (of course). We hope that she'll have a month left. We certainly can't complain about 20 yrs with her... Anyway, I hope that Mom makes an ornament for Sapphire and when it comes time to inherit Christmas ornaments (hopefully very far in the future!), I will stake my claim for that ornament right away.

I thought you might like this idea, especially with his passing being so close to Christmas.

Hugs,
Andrea
