The conversion routine 3!:4 only accepts scalar or vector arguments.
Would it be possible to extend it to behave in a similar way to #. and #:

cnvt =: ( 3 : ' ($y)$_2[\ 1 ic ,y') :. ( 3 : '(}:$y)$_1 ic,y')
$ cnvt i.20 30 40
20 30 40 2
(-: ].cnvt )
What you are proposing is exactly x 3!:40 y for positive x and
x ''$@(3!:4) 1 y for negative x .
