Hello all
I was leaving the office this evening when I noticed a raptor soaring over the
Visitor Centre parking lot. The lofty flight and soaring made me excited and I
got my bins on it - 1 year Mississippi Kite. It was rather back lit so the
barring in the tail stood out. It slowly cruised to
Sunny skies and light northerly winds greeted birders this morning. Most
bird activity appeared to be at Tip, with two or three dozen Yellow-rumped
Warblers and equal numbers of Ruby-crowned Kinglets. Amongst them were low
numbers/singles of Palm Warbler, Black-and-White Warbler, Cape May
the Henslow's Sparrow was sighted this afternoon.
It's finally feeling like spring!

While on my duties yesterday, I had a Vesper Sparrow at the south end of
the West Beach parking lot. There are still lots of kinglets in the park
and good numbers of sparrows as well.

I was able to make it out to Wheatley Harbour after work and was lucky enough
to get to see the pelican. It was sitting on the rock break wall as previously
reported by Alan Wormington. The bird stayed in the same location until 7 pm
when it took off and flew out into the lake. It had

of a Brown Pelican sighted off the western shore of Point Pelee yesterday by
some local residents who were out fishing. Definitely worth keeping an eye

Hi all.
A big gang of us staked out the north end of the visitor centre parking lot
tonight and were rewarded with a very vocal Chuck-will's-widow (which is still
calling as I write). The bird start to vocalize around 8:40pm. Stay tuned to
hear if it's found again in the morning.

Northwest Beach this afternoon, along with Cliff Swallow. A
male Rose-breasted Grosbeak was noted on the seasonal birding trail north
of Sanctuary. There was still a good number of birds in this part of the
park, like yesterday.

scoop
The owl has been seen actively hunting again today in the same general area
that has been described in previous emails.

I've arrived and it is here.
The bird is on McCain side road between county rd 20 and concession 2. It's
currently hanging around address 1643 and has been seen on both the east and
west sides of the road

Point Pelee National Park held is 60th annual Christmas Bird Count today.
Birder were greeted with milder than normal temperatures and brisk south winds.
The Tip felt much more like a day in early November than December. Waterbirds
carried the count this year, with land birds
using the mudflats along the edges of the ponds.
We've finally started to see some movement of Monarch butterflies as well
- feel free to join our Monarch Count at the Tip parking lot at 7 pm on
Friday.

No reports today of the Kentucky Warbler that had been present the last two
days.
At the time of this post, I haven't received any reports from Hillman
Marsh.

From outside the park, a Eurasian Wigeon was reported from the Hillman
Marsh Shorebird cell.

viewing opportunities. 4 Marbled Godwite and 1 Whimbrel were found this
afternoon.

Sparrows.
Along the West Beach footpath and earlier in the West Beack parking lot, a male
Kentucky Warlber was found - I just got back from a quick search for it and did
hear it, but didn't get a good look at it.

There were still lots of grasshoppers and other insects along the roadside
this afternoon. I will be checking out the site on my way into the park
tomorrow morning and will post the results.
