hiking shoes, warm gear. Possible owls, hawks, falcons, ducks, gulls, possible
winter finches.

The WESA continues on beach 1. Flushed by Peregrine Falcon at 9:45am but
presumably still in the area.
Take exit off 401 to Brighton then follow signs to Presquile Provincial Park.
Beach 1 parking lot is the first right turn off the main road in the park.

When we returned north to Peterborough Airport, we found a pair of recently
fledged Great Horned Owls, Merlin, Virginia Rail and Wilson's Snipe.

53 birders attended today's outing. Generally warm, sunny conditions with no
snow cover. This led to very few sparrows being found and no Short-eared Owls
when the outing ended at 4.15 pm. But owl pellets were discovered so they are
still around.
Many raptors were seen throughout the day
on the Otonabee River, and a
total of 8 Bald Eagles : 2 adults and 2 first-year birds at Lock 25 on the
Otonabee River, an adult at Lake Katchewenooka, and 2 adults and a first-year

38 birders attended the annual OFO Palgrave/Beeton fieldtrip today in beautiful
weather.A total of 70 species were recorded.At Palgrave Conservation Area only
a few warblers were found : Black-throated Green, Chestnut-sided and several
Common Yellowthroat.Best find was an Olive-sided
August 20 : 1 pm : One Juvenile Red-necked Phalarope , 9 Least, 2 Spotted
sandpipers in Lakefield Sewage Lagoons in the south cell.Yesterday there were 6
Red-necked Phalaropes there.

On Thursday, September 18 at 6:30pm, the Essex Region Conservation Authority
presents An Evening with Joel Greenberg, author of A Feathered River Across the
Sky: The Passenger Pigeon's Flight to Extinction. This book has been called a
parable for our time by Dr. David Suzuki. Mr. Greenberg

A Black Tern was seen briefly.
Best sighting was a dark-morph Broad-winged Hawk migrating fairly low overhead
after the rain had ceased, along with Coopers, Sharp-shinned, Red-tailed and
other Broad-winged hawks, Osprey and Turkey Vultures.

On today's OFO trip the group saw a total of 61 species. We birded the Otonabee
River, Lakefield Sewage Lagoons, the Nephton and Petroglyphs area, Burleigh
Falls, Young's Point Road, Orange Corners and Morton Line.
Highlights included 15 species of waterfowl, 2 Bald Eagles at the nest on Lake
45 birders enjoyed a beautiful day along Lake Erie today and saw a number of
interesting birds.Despite missing Short-eared owls at Fisherville, the group
saw many other raptors.Highlights were 21 Bald Eagles in one tree on RR # 3

2 Buff-breasted Sandpipers (juvenile) on 11th Line .5 km east of Tottenham Rd.2
Baird's Sandpipers (juv.) at Schomberg Sewage Lagoons3 Merlins at swamp on
Humber Station Rd. north of Finnerty Siderd.5 Green
, Chestnut-sided,
Bay-breasted, Wilson's, American Redstart and Northern Waterthrush. Other
interesting species were Red-bellied Woodpecker, Peregrine Falcon, Orchard

An excellent two-day trip up the Bruce Peninsula produced 109 bird species for
the more than 30 birders attending each day.Highlights : Saturday the Malcolm
Bluff Shores Nature Reserve hosted several well-seen birds including
Black-billed Cuckoo, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Scarlet Tanager,
on floating nest),
Common Terns, Willow Flycatcher, Yellow Warbler, Cedar Waxwings, etc. Dave

Ended our UK tour today with Snowy Egret near Dunnville at 7 am (see directions
from Kevin Shackleton earlier) and 100 Whimbrel as we arrived at Col Sam Smith
Pk in Etobicoke (foot of Kipling Ave.) at 2.30 pm.The Whimbrel flock included
one with distinct white rump :-European sub-species or

Six American White Pelicans are currently roosting at Holiday Beach, west
22 OFO birders braved the snowy morning and cold winds off Lake Erie this
afternoon to find a total of 45 species.Highlights : the biggest highlight
was the flock of 1000 + Brown-headed Cowbirds in a field near Port Dover, along
with a number of Red-winged Blackbirds.Others included
