Observations: The watch was initially undertaken at the boat launch but with the winds generally from the north a switch was made to Point Mouillee where virtually all birds were recorded. The flight was spread out due partly to the lightness of the wind and the fact that there were several changes in wind direction during the course of the day. Highlighting the day was the 7 Northern Goshawks recorded. We seem to be having an excellent season with regards to this species. The TV total leaves us just 190 birds short of 70 thousand, which should be attained unless they dry up completely in the next few days. Non-raptor highlights came in the form of a fly-over group of 12 Common Loons and a Virginia Rail foraging along the edge of the cat-tails. Two Monarchs were also seen. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Calvin Brennan ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) SMRR- Lake Erie Metropark information may be found at: http://www.smrr.net/ The primary site used by Southeastern Michigan Raptor Research (SMRR) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
