[Blackbelly] suden death of ABB ewe

I am a registered ABB breeder in south miami florida

this morning my strongest 3 1/2 year old ewe died without any  sign of
illness or distress.

she gave birth 2 weeks ago to a beautiful ram (5 lbs) which she nursed
normally.

I found and burned her placenta.

She was well rounded,not skinny and she had no diarrhea and blood in her
stool

her eyes were pink

I opened her belly and did not find any unborn baby

her stomachs were full of grass

her intestines very clean and no blood

I did not find any fecal pellets

I will appreciate any info.

It could be scald between the toes. This wet weather causes it. A shot of 
penn will help with the soreness in about 24 hrs. Nancy

Tom,

Check his hoof...are there an breaks or tears??  How about between his 
toes??  Sometimes mud gets packed in there and blocks the glands in 
between toes.


If his legs structures are ok...maybe he just pulled muscles or tendons??

My Ram came up lame a couple of weeks ago.  He is not putting any weight 
on

his left rear hoof.  I have manipulated all the joints and muscles, and
nothing seems to cause him any pain.  Otherwise, he is young and 
healthy,

and eats well.  Any Ideas?
