All current scanners could handle the DPI necessary to scan text, which
I was told would never need more than 600 dotts per inch. Your
discrepancy is in the software and the mainstream Finereader and
Omnipage is good and in any case utilised in both adaptive OCR programs,
Openbook and Kurzweil,
Thank you very much,

Hi everyone,
Can I Optimize the user interface in Avast 6, so Avast 6 working better with
JAWS?
Now I have setup many things, but I have problems when I will setup the
virus alert (press settings when you have opened the user interface from
the system icon), and press CTRL+TAB until JAWS
I am using the latest jaws and the latest skype, how do I accept a friend
request.

For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit:
http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
If it is anything like mine you will have to go to the contacts screen of
skype and route jaws to pc and hit control home and arrow down to where it
shows the request. At this point left click on it and it should bring it up
and you can use normal navigation keys to accept the request.
I did do that but there was no contact request that I could left click on.

Stil figuring out Win7 a bit here. I wanted to disable a playback
option in Win 7's Sound applet in Control Panel because I believe
I inadvertently picked it for NVDA to use, which is now silent
because I'm not sure that integrated sound device is really turned
on. So rather than that
Hi Lali,

I should add I did check Device Manager and it says it is there and
operational. Its just not showing up in that Sound applet.
Microsoft might benefit from the saying Don't make permanent
problems out of temporary situations, or at least let me know I wil
if I choose a disable option :).
It only shows up there if there are requests. You have to go down a bit to
get to it.

Hi everybody,
I am currently using Internet Explorer 7 with Windows XP Pro and Jaws 8.
Will I run into any major problems by upgrading to Internet Explorer 8? Are
there a lot of bugs I need to be aware of before I make the upgrade?
If not, can someone also give me the link to download IE 8.

Hi everybodyou need at least the very latest build of jaws 9.0 to

Unless you either want to upgrade your jaws or start using nvda, I
would recommend sticking with what you have.

,
YI am currently using Internet Explorer 7
Not sure if jaws 8 will affect it as such, but I've been using IE8 for over
a year or so now, with no real issues, but am on jaws 12, but anyway.
According to this screen reader usage of IE8 page, though, they reckon you
need like jaws10 upwards:
It works great. I've never had any problems using it.

Sorry, no can do. JAWS 8 will not work with IE 8. Only JAWS 9 and later
will work with IE 8.

Thank you all for that GREAT and time-saving information.
I've thought about jumping up to JAWS 10 or 11, just haven't committed the
$$$ for it yet.
Again, thank you all for the information.

Unfortuatnely, when upgrading jaws, you have to go to the latest and
greatest - and pay for the privilege
you may want to give nvda a try, especially if you are on a tight
budget. nvda has gotten quite good and might do all or most of what
you need. A new release is on the horizon.
You can
Hi Doris and Gerald,
It needs to be determined whose defination of, work is being used.
With the exception of some websites, I am still using Jaws 6.2 with IE 8.
So, to saythat it will absolutely not work, is incorrect.

Hi Ken,
You will have to give it a try for yourself,to make an accurate
determination
as to whether it serves your needs using your particular version of Jaws.
As far as IE8 itself goes, no known significant problems
If memory serves,
If you installed IE7 after installing XP service pack 3,
then
Try holding down the jaws key and pressing F8 then arrow until you find new
contact request or something to that effect then enter then tab if my
memory serves me right.
