This is the last time you will need sighted assistance. Grab the resident pair of eye-balls and ask. This is the time when you want to take your favorite tactile media and make yourself some witness marks around the gage face. BTW Check us out at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -Original Message-

Good article Dale. I assumed someone would find a link between nanotubes and a health hazard. It only made sense that microscopic fibers might cause a problem if inhaled over time. -- Blue skies. Dan Rossi Carnegie Mellon University. E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tel:(412) 268-9081

A similar story on NPR indicated the most probably worry would be for those building stuff with nanotubes. Surely should be watched and taken care of before it becomes a problem, but probably no need for panic. when, if, we build a space elevator with carbon nanotube cables, it'll be all fine.

Hi Lee, You can get a variation on a theme, so to speak, from Lowes or Home Depot. They are basically strong aluminum railings that fasten onto existing concrete steps by the use of concrete screws. I installed a set on my front steps and they are every bit as sturdy as the rot iron ones.

[BlindHandyMan] soldering questions

When it comes to soldering, how do you know when you have the flame on the right place? It's not that I can't solder. The problem I have is keeping the flame on the spot where I want it, or I'll completely miss the spot entirely. Not talking about wires here, we're talking copper pipes. Shane

Hello Shane, It takes practice. There are a few ways that I use. 1) gently advance the tip of the torch to the pipe and use it to feel your way to the seam of the joint then withdraw it an inch or so. Take care, it will sometimes put the flame out. As you withdraw the torch you should hear a

No reason at all. Instead of using the masonry drill and a bolt and shield you would substitute a lag screw in its place. - Original Message - From: Larry Stansifer To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2008 10:07 PM Subject: RE: [BlindHandyMan]

I do it much the same way Dale explained. You have to develop replacement ability for not watching the flame. As you get the flame centered on the diameter of the pipe the typical noise the flame makes will soften and almost hiss when you are centered and close enough to the pipe. You can

Hi Larry, No reason whatsoever. The fact that the screws are made for both, concrete and wood make it an easier job when fastening it to a wooden structure. I do believe they can be switched to carriage bolts if you're not too sure about it's safety, but seeing how it's stood the test of time

Hi Rob, If you're thinking of using these types of railings that I referred to, you really don't have to calculate anything short of the distance between the end post and the top post. Since the bars between posts are all the same length, it's fairly simple to just measure out the distance
