No, it does not introduce rust or any other concerns into the duct work. Even growing up with one of the older humidifiers and I'm talking over 30 years ago and there was never any problems. The level of humidity is not great. In other words, if you stand at the vent, you don't feel a mist

Hi Betsy, During the winter heating season we are talking about trying to get the household humidity up to around 40%. Molt isn't a problem in warm ducts where the humidity will be considerably lower than that however it can be a problem around the frames of windows, corners of bathrooms
