I am not sure I fully understand the set-up you have but most of my drains
have a tail
Dale,
Yes, it's quite different, The threaded tail from the drain takes an inch
and a quarter slip nut and has a flange shaped plastic insert that is pushed
up against this tail by a small flange on
the top of a piece of smaller pipe with the afore mentioned slip joint nut
holding this all
Hi Mickey,
Yep, I looked carefully at the tail piece and it is coroded solid, so if it
is leaking it's cause it has crack.
I'm going to put some compound or teflon tape on that thread
also to see if that stops it.
With the supplied washer in the slip joint nut, the nut
can't come up far enough
wow tom ouch.
i would fix it with a short piece of hose and a clamp or 2
or supprise the one who shall be obeyed with a new sink grin.

Dale,
thanks, I've done some of that and I believe the leak is comming
from the actual upper slip joint but will continue to paper over the problem.

Jim,
Hose is a good backup if nothing else works., thanks
As for new sinks, it's a rented house, darned if I'll buy one
for the landlord good folks even though they be.
Wouldn't need a sink I hope, at most new drain parts maybe.

Tom,
Is their any way possible for you to apply a small amount of air pressure
to the sink side of the drain and then feel for the air leek underneath? If
you have access to an air compressor turn the regulator down to about 8LBS,
use a rag to seal around the outflow side of the sink and

Hi Lary,
Nope, don't have a compresserk guess I could hook it to the gas lines
and have a look round with a match GRIN
I think it'd be pretty hard to get a good seal on the drain, inside the sink,
end.
Interesting thought
thanks

Hi Tom,
Wouldn't a shop vac with a blower accomplish the same task?

Betsy,
They probably will if I ask, we have a personal policy of trying
to fix stuff our selves, that's why our rent is very cheap and
has remained so for nearly 35 years.
May have to ask for professional help if I can't figger it out.

Damn right it wood and that big pressure side outlet would be easier to seal.

Yes, thanks, I now remember that gas companies still use a similar solution
to check for gas leaks.

The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is.
Did my suggestion of the shop vac garner some sarcastic remarks, or are you all
serious in putting what I said down?
Just wondering as I am not able to figure out whether this is sarcasm or
response.

Tom,
Don't feel bad. One time someone asked me to use a device that forced
air into the sink drain to clear it for her. So, being a kind soul
that I am, I proceeded as she instructed. It was an old house and the
air pressure blew the pipes off at the back wall. Hmm, had to call the pros.

Dale,
I believe the rubber gaskets in the new nuts are square in cross section,
but I'll check more carefully that could be it!
I don't see that the flanged end of the pipe looks distorted, but again,
i'll check carefully.
Since there is a plastic flange that fits inside the upper end of the

Tom, you are in luck. I am fully stocked for the winter. I have just
