Lenny, I had trouble with a unit and I got a new 6 pack of batteries and all were bad. I should not say bad, the voltage was to low for it too work. They powered one other item and nothing else. After checking it out with different items and more new batteries, I found out it was the battery

the 9 volt one if the Cobolt from england. The Aa battery one is a german knockoff, I believe available from Maxi aids they use the same speech but the German one is much poorer quality. but they're based on the same technologies and tape reading techniques. The german one is more expensive.
