I once had one of the older tapes and pretty well hated it. Didn't take long
for it to crack and ultimately break at one of the inch markings where the tape
was weakened by embossing which is probably why they discontinued that method

If they are what I think, they are strap like steel parts which attach to the
sides of the main chute and project like horns above and forward of the top of
it. Their purpose is to cut into and drop high drifts into the mouth of the
chute so the auger will force it into the thrower blade.

Doesn't even need to be super tight. the motion of the arbor and the resistance
of the blade will set adequate tightness. Snug it up a little better than
