Right. Pat P. as he was know on the bimmer.info board. He was making some
pretty sick custom turbo setups and this does look like one of his jobs.
Had quite a stable of BMWs including some rare Alpina turbos.

Anyone know whatever happened to that guy? He sure built some pretty
awesome toys on a money is no object budget.

Jeff

I don't suppose anyone has a quick answer on this. I am trying to remove
the center air vent on an E28 5-Series. I have the top vent cover already
removed (two screws). Does the front center vent just pry/pull out? Are
there one or more screws that I am not seeing? Perhaps they are accessed
from behind or the side after removing something else?

Thanks,

Stan

Upon further inspection, I believe I have found the answer. It does not pop
out like the side vents, except, perhaps, with a significant struggle.
Fortunately, I found another solution.

For future reference, here's (very large) pic of the
underside of the dash with about 2/3 of the ductwork
installed, including the center vent section. Hope it's
helpful. And that's one of Maximillian Importing's famed
employees as the display model! ;-)

Early E28s had functional dash center vents.
Late E28s had decorative grilles instead, with no ductwork.
The removal process is likely different.
It's possible to convert from new to old.
