Hi all,
I have an opportunity to buy a 2000 740i Sport on the cheap with a bad
transmission. I have seen tranny's on Ebay for $1500 or so from
Phoenix. Is there any reason I can't just buy a trans and swap it and
the torque converter out? Anyone BTDT?

I have an auto trans from a 2001 740i Sport with 45,163 miles on it.
Came out of a 6spd conversion car. $1200.

Not a hard job and a very nice car. If the price is right, I'd jump on it.

In fact, if you decide against it, give me their number.

Thanks

Jefrem Iwaniw passed away about a year and a half ago, very unexpected.
He is still very sorely missed.

Was cleaning out an unused closet yesterday and found a "Circle Tire -

RIP, Michel. You are remembered and missed.

Have a situation where I have a '97 528i with a cracked head that can't be
repaired (it's single vanos). I have a good spare M50 engine out of a '92
325i (no vanos).

Question - would it be possible to effectively swap the M50 head onto the
M52?

I know the cams, lifters, and cam cradles are different, but a rough
assembly indicates that the M52 stuff does appear to fit on the M50 head.
Also I know the M50 has dual-valve springs and larger lifters but the M50
and M52 springs both measure out to 30mm and I have to use the M52 cams,
cradles, and lifters in the M50 head due to the intake vanos. Will the
dual-valve springs cause problems for the smaller M52 lifters? Are you
aware of differences in oil or water passages? Are there any issues with
the single vanos being used on a M50 head? Any other road blocks or
concerns?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can provide some guidance.
