Well, if you feel like participating, I say we ought to do it chapter by
chapter.

I for one have read this book. (I bought it six years ago when I was on a
school trip to London, England, as Brin books were rather hard to find
locally at the time. I'll probably never see the edition I purchased ever
again. Makes a nice souvenier.)

I have read it before. How about the rest of you guys? Have you read it?
Of course this question is only relevant if you consider participating in
  the discussion.
I don't really care which method we chose.
If as much as a single person who hasn't read the book wants to
participate,
I recommend just assuming no one did.

  Sincerely
  Oretwig

By 'active' I merely meant people who weren't just lurking, but
  occasionally
posting their opinion on the matter. Perhaps even reading along.

O.K.. By the way, I've got a question about protocol. Are
we assuming that everyone has already read the entire book, and that
we're doing a chapter-by-chapter discussion? Last time I did one of
these, some people were reading the book for the first time as we
discussed it. This made it hard to refer to passages from later
parts of the book during the discussion.

I think this is going to be very interesting, but I'm a little curious: How
many people feel like actively joining in? It would be a major bugger to
 write posts to myself :)

I'm shaky on what 'active' means, but I'm in.
