sparse file not supported appears because environment block can't be saved on
btrfs. However this error is not fatal. What other errors did you see?

Latest git snapshot fully detects the drive and reads media correctly, but
there is still a noticeable delay when there is no medium present when
accessing the drive. Can something be done about this?

I don't see any other errors. It just proceeds to launching Linux at once. If
you want me to upload some file or run some command, I can do it, but I don't
know what command or what file.
