thanks for your response In meantime since i wrote I have edited /etc/grub.conf, run grub-install /dev/sda, and grub-install --recheck to map all drives all drives are mapped but, no matter if i use kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8smp ro root=LABEL=/ hda=ide-scsi or kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8smp ro
