Architecture: OpenBSD.i386 Machine : i386 >Description: running automake with no AUTOMAKE_VERSION env var needs non-zero exit >How-To-Repeat: $ automake --version Provide an AUTOMAKE_VERSION environment variable, please $ In attempting to build latest libtool [2.2.8] and gnash [8.7] on OpenBSD 4.7 I had the following exchange with the libtool folks. If the env vars are set for AUTO{MAKE,CONF}_VERSION, the libtool test suite passes OK. ================================================ Re: libtool 2.2.8 build on OpenBSD 4.7 fails test suite From: Ralf Wildenhues <ralf.wildenh...@gmx.de> (Institute for Numerical Simulation, University of Bonn) To: Ken Dickey <ken.dic...@whidbey.com> CC: bug-libt...@gnu.org Date: Today 11:16:55 am Hello Ken, thanks for the report. * Ken Dickey wrote on Fri, Jun 18, 2010 at 07:31:14PM CEST: > "test.log" is attached. > 10. libtoolize.at:651: testing ... > ./libtoolize.at:685: $LIBTOOLIZE --copy > > > ./libtoolize.at:692: $ACLOCAL -I $abs_top_srcdir/libltdl/m4 > stderr: > stdout: > Provide an AUTOMAKE_VERSION environment variable, please Most of your failures look like this, with an error from autoconf, automake, or aclocal. This is due to OpenBSD providing wrappers for these programs in /usr/local/bin which require you to set the environment variables AUTOCONF_VERSION and AUTOMAKE_VERSION to versions which you have installed. These wrappers have a bug, in that they do not exit with a failure status after this error message, otherwise the Libtool test suite would have skipped these tests. I remember to have mentioned this bug a while ago to someone I thought was an OpenBSD developer, but it seems to still be unfixed. Could you please open a PR with them to have it fixed? The issue is that /usr/local/bin/{autoconf,automake,aclocal} should have nonzero exit status when the respective variable is not set. I haven't looked at the other testsuite failures yet. Cheers, Ralf =============================================================== >Fix: work-around: export AUTOCONF_VERSION=2.62 export AUTOMAKE_VERSION=1.9 dmesg: OpenBSD 4.7 (GENERIC) #2: Wed May 26 13:12:25 PDT 2010 r...@tranquil.whidbey.com:/usr/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/GENERIC cpu0: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 900 @ 2.20GHz ("GenuineIntel" 686-class) 2.20 GHz cpu0: FPU,V86,DE,PSE,TSC,MSR,PAE,MCE,CX8,APIC,SEP,MTRR,PGE,MCA,CMOV,PAT,PSE36,CFLUSH,DS,ACPI,MMX,FXSR,SSE,SSE2,SS,TM,SBF,SSE3,MWAIT,DS-CPL,TM2,CX16,xTPR real mem = 3081785344 (2939MB) avail mem = 2991906816 (2853MB) mainbus0 at root bios0 at mainbus0: AT/286+ BIOS, date 06/04/09, SMBIOS rev. 2.4 @ 0xe8130 (35 entries) bios0: vendor INSYDE version "1.90" date 06/04/2009 bios0: TOSHIBA Satellite L355 acpi0 at bios0: rev 2 acpi0: tables DSDT FACP HPET APIC MCFG ASF!
