I think this is an old issue. But I don't know how to fix it. None of the
previous comments that I've read about it seem relevant to Catalyst.
I'm running OS X 10.6, perl 5.12.3, catalyst 5.8
$ CATALYST_DEBUG=0 APP_TEST=1 prove -l t/01app.t

If you are on OS X, you can use MacPorts to install Catalyst. I had tried using
CPAN, but got seemingly circular errors as well.

I definitely recommend the CPAN Catalyst::Manual::Tutorial. And strongly
recommend using the virtual machine to run the tutorial:
