We have a PILEATED WOODPECKER coming daily to our suet feeders. I thought it was a female as it lacked the red cheek stripe. However, the red crest extends forward of the eye to the base of the bill, as Sibley shows for the male. What's happening here? Steve Fast Brooktondale --

Today Dominic Sherony and I went in pursuit of Purple Sandpipers reported by others at Fairhaven State Park and Sodus Point. On the weekend 3 Purple Sandpipers were reported by Chris Wood and Jessie Barry found along the inside of the east jetty at Little Sodus Bay. We were able to find 2 of
