A little over an hour ago I had a Northern Shrike along Freese Road. The
bird was moving east, stopping in the crown of each of the two lonely trees
in the field across from Dyce Lab before continuing on.

I meant to post yesterday, but forgot...I haven't seen any Siskin postings
recently. We still have a few at our feeders. Yesterday we had 3 when I
first looked outside at 8 or so, and there were 3 around again this
morning as well. Both times with the flock of Goldfinches that frequent

I have had 3 siskins coming in a flock of goldfinches here, as well,
although I haven't seen the siskins since yesterday morning. Interesting
coincidence given that we are only about 3 miles apart, but I doubt it
could be the same flock (especially since that Evening Grosbeak you had a

Shannon and I finally heard and saw a Woodcock this evening in the fields
at the top of the property. Perhaps we had been going out too late given
the lack of moonlight in the evening, or perhaps it was the elevation
(1640-1680 Ft) but this was the first we've heard them this year. It was

John I put up a new bluebird box on the clothesline arm late yesterday. This
a.m. the first inspection was done by our local, prospective, bluebird couple.
They only have 5 other boxes from which to choose but this is a new style
maybe the house sparrows will not like its light interior.
I had to double-check the location myself, but I suppose a huge canyon like the
one that cuts through the Hudson Highlands has some power to concentrate
Bohemians as well as Redcoats and Hessians.

Sorry , It's Robert Wehle State Park NW of Pulaski. I didn't know until I
arrived there. Stony Point is the local name.
Jeff Bolsinger has been up here today and passed the word on the very large
flocks.
I don't know what Jeff's total is , but I saw one flock of 500 another of at
least 1000
We are still seeing the Northern Shrike on Niemi Rd near the horse pastures.

An interesting scenario around 4 pm behind the airport - 3 E BLUEBIRDS on
fence, E MEADOWLARK perched singing on small bush behind them; very
interested-looking RED-TAILED HAWK on fence about 100 feet away..
