Last night around 10 PM, I heard the distinctive guttural flight calls of a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOOS above the fireflies in my yard. Could not be a migrant (either direction) on July 2, rather probably the odd night-time “flying around and calling” that these birds seem to do in summer — as described previously by Christ T-H and much earlier by Bill Evans. Strange birds.
