Here's a link to the locality topo, if anyone wants to see it. The location of interest is along rte 89 in the NW corner of the map, just east of the 524' drumlin summit shown there. http://www.dec.ny.gov/data/dfwmr/bba/pdf/3577a.pdf -Geo -- Cayugabirds-L List Info:

Interesting to read your observations. When you were a young lad we had some cold winters with very extensive icing. I remember one year when we all were chasing something, a Gyr I think, and the name of the game in the telephonic tree was the location of the northern ice edge which kept

[cayugabirds-l] Snowy Owls in Varick/Romulus

2015-02-18 Thread Daniel Graham
Yale Farm Rd. in Varick/Romulus (east of junction with Rt. 96a) continues to be a good bet for SNOWY OWLS. On Monday around sunset, the heavy streaked owl was in the middle of the farm field east of the McGrane Rd. intersection (google tells me this is in Romulus). Being so dark overall, the bird

That's right. Trouble is, the eBird coordinates translate in Apple Maps to an address (4167 Route 89, Savannah‎ New York‎ 13146) that sits right on a saddle between Butler Creek drainage (IN the basin) and Wolcott Creek drainage (OUT). On the USGS topo it looks like the back yard at that

I tried to post this a while ago, but it never appeared, so I will try again. According to waynecountynysoiland water.org (under What is a Watershed?) the entire Butler Creek drainage is into the Seneca River. However, another page on that site states that the Town of Butler lies within both

Well, it's 15 degrees out and there's 2+ feet of snow in my yard, but my Northern Cardinals have love on their minds already: the male just fed his mate TWICE with seed from the feeder! Maybe it's just a late Valentine, but I'll take it as a sign of spring! Marie Marie Read Wildlife

I did a brief review of the waynecountynysoilandwater.org site and found out a couple things. The town of Butler is listed as partly in the Lake Ontario watershed (basin drainage) and partly in the Seneca River Drainage. However, according to a watershed map, the entire Butler Creek lies within
