I have a banded pigeon that's feeding in our yard. It has a yellow leg
band on the left leg and has gray feathers. Can't make out the number.
Anyone know about banded pigeons in Ithaca?

Field Sparrow can give that impression, because its song too is delivered in
accelerando, sometimes even with a slight rise in pitch. If you have the
Audubon Birds app, you can compare Track #3 for both species to see what I mean.

This coming Sunday, the 23ed I will be leading a trip to Derby Hill Hawk
watch, located just north of Mexico, N.Y, on Lake Ontario. We will meet
at the north parking area at the Lab of Ornithology at 7 AM, to car pool.
We will plan to stop on the way for rest stop/food & drinks.
