This is about a month early for a migrant Catbird. EBird shows them
historically (the last 20 years when there has been eBird) starting to return
to Tompkins the last week of April and here in full force the first week of
May. But during this balmy winter, quite a few Catbirds didn’t bother to
Janie Leff and I went today and saw plenty of Sand hill cranes along with a
bunch of pintails and shovelers and other ducks in the pond near the nature
center. And, thanks to Suan, Janie almost immediately spotted the Red headed
woodpecker in the row of trees in the parking lot, lakeside.

There were 31 cranes at Visitor Center pool last Friday morning and, from
the Seneca Trail tower one can see the adult eagle incubating her egg(s?).
The bugling calls the cranes were making was worth the price of admission.
