This morning, before it was seen at the feeder, the male Red-bellied Woodpecker that frequents our suet was eating a frozen brown apple still hanging on a tree. It was drilling into it and extracting bites. Fruit is frequently mentioned as part of their diet, but I hadn't before seen one

I remember many years ago seeing an apple tree with frozen fruit with several Pine Grosbeaks enjoying the fruit. Lovely sight. By the way, Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville had both Long-eared and Saw-whet Owls today on the Bog Trail.My favorite kind of Christmas present! Judy
