175 Family Development Being Proposed for end of Taryeton Drive Concerning
the proposed "Taryeton Drive Multi-Family Complex" proposed for the end of
Taryeton. I have received a proposed map from the Town of Ithaca Planning
Department which was prepared by Marathon Engineering in Rochester to get
an assessment of the water plan. . According to Becky Jordan, this is in
its conceptual phases, which means this is a very good time to weigh in.
But the developer, Dakota, is already putting some significant investment
into this so this is not in just "gee, let's think about this" phse. For
some reason I am unable to post a copy of the map here but am happy to
share it. It does appear that the traffic would be routed through Arrowood
Drive but it requires removing a lot of that forest and actually affecting
the wetlands that are directly contiguous with the Lab of Ornithology. I
would like to ask everyone who is interested in taking a very active
supervisory role in this to drop your e-mail in a message to me and I will
create a group and share the map and anyone can then share info on this. We
DO need affordable housing. We DO need to plan for density. We DO need to
be sensitive to scale and sudden impacts and neighborhood walkability and
the ecological sustainability of large projects like this. We Do need to
demand that Cornell is transparent about the original bequest that allowed
it to get the land adjacent to the LAb of Ornithology. We DO need to demand
that with a project like this which will have a huge impact on traffic,
roads, schools, walkability adn ecology that Cornell pay its fair share of
taxes. (Kind of a separate issue and kind of not.) If you are in the
cigarette streets, please start spreading the word. We need full
transparency and we need to be informed and organized.
