I've had Cornell's Live FeederWatch Cam (Lab of O, Ithaca) running on YouTube
this morning (I have a windowless office, so this is my attempt at "birding" at
work haha)... A Common Grackle was just visiting the feeding station! The angle
of the light right now is beautiful and
Not just crows and raptors and owls: the Common Grackle pair nesting in the
dead cattails at Hile School rd Wetland has nestlings big enough to show their
impressive little bills over the edge—visible while just sitting there.
Guessing they will fledge in 6-7 da.

For the last two mornings I've had 15 Red-winged Blackbirds and a Song
Sparrow picking up seeds under my feeders. This morning a Grackle has
joined them.
Yesterday I enjoyed the sights and sounds of hundreds of Canada Geese
heading north, with a few Snows here and there.

Yesterday, while working in my garden in downtown Ithaca, I noticed out of
the corner of my eye a black bird fly into the Norway Maple. I assumed it
was a grackle as they are nesting in the tree (and had a fledgling recently
land in the street). A Fed Ex guy stopped last week to relocate it to

We just had our first common grackle of the spring on our feeder. This was
right after a male Cardinal in a rush of testosterone flew smack into another
Cardinal on the feeder. The other Cardinal is solid wood and painted bright
red. He did not move from the spot where he sits day and night,
